SUSTAINABILITY IS COOL

          & very necessary

We at FLOUR, bakes & brew, strive to do a little good with every cake, with every brownie or kombucha bottle.

We believe that it is important to contribute to a better world and this is how we do it:

Our products are: plastic free, vegan, optionally gluten-free & palm oil free

We have: slave free chocolate & small carbon footprint

We are: LGBTQIA+ ally

PALM OIL FREE

Found in many groceries, perfumes or other  cosmetic products.

Large-scale conversion of tropical forests to oil palm plantations has a devastating impact on a huge number of plant and animal species.

What do we do right now:

We do not use ANY palm oil in our cakes and brownie batter.

What can we improve:

We still use two products that contain palm oil: Biscoff and Oreo. We haven't been able to find decent replacements and our clients keep asking for it.

We do state on our webshop that these two products contain palm oil, and we hope to create awareness!

VEGAN

plant based life style means that you do not consume (or use) any animal products. This means no meat (duhh), eggs, milk, butter, cheese or honey.

Raising animals for food requires massive amounts of land, food, energy, and water. The byproducts of animal agriculture pollute our air and waterways.

What do we already do:

We leave out ALL animal products in our bakes & brew.

What we can improve:

Our business is vegan, period. There is not much to improve on that front. But, we don't buy all of our products locally, yet. It would be more sustainable if we did, so this is something that we will be working on.

SLAVE FREE

CHOCOLATE

There are still estimated 2.1 million chocolate slaves. Mostly children.

Chocolate comes from cocoa beans, mainly harvested in Western Africa. There it represents an industry that enslaves and imprisons children, exploiting them for free labor.

What do we already do:

Our chocolate is traceable. We are part of the Cocoa Horizon program. Our chocolate supports cocoa famers.

What can we improve:

At some point, we would like to start working directly with cocoa formers and cut out the middle man. But unfortunately we're still too small for this.

PLASTIC FREE

Worldwide, over 500 BILLION plastic botles are used every year!

Just let the following sink in:

1. Worldwide, over 100.00 tons of gum is discarded every year. Gum is made of synthetic rubber, which is a plastic

2. In the US alone, over 2 BILLION razors are thrown away yearly

3. Worldwide, 1 TRILLION plastic bags are discarded on a yearly basis

What do we already do:

We do NOT wrap our products in plastic. We do NOT use plastic in our shop. We separate our trash.

What can we do better:

We try to buy our goods (ingredients etc.) plastic free, but our Callebaut chocolate is still delivered in a 10kg plastic bag. We are now in touch with a vegan chocolate company in Bali, Indonesia (POD) and we will maybe switch to a even more sustainable suppler (boat shipments).
